Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, also known as Southern Ari Atoll, is an administrative division which was formed in the year of 1984 after the separation of Ari Atoll into Northern and Southern divisions. There is an ancient mosque in Fenfushi island having wooden decorated ceilings and lacquer work panels. There is also some Buddhist remains in one of the islands in the Atoll. Whale sharks are year-round residents of Alif Dhaal Atoll.
