Knuckles

The Knuckles Mountain Range known in Sinhalese as Dumbara Kanduvetiya, meaning "Misty Mountains" is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The site has been declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Conservation Area. It is called the Knuckles Range because it resembles a set of knuckles in a closed fist. Sprawling over 155sq km, the region contains five major forest formations with breathtaking vistas. For those who love to hike or mountain bike, visiting the Knuckles Range provides an unspoilt habitat and vegetation through its numerous trails that journey across rivers, dense forests or past flowing waterfalls and in the midst of lush plantations.  The village in the area provides a rare insight to the traditional lifestyle the people hold dear.
