Surfing

Sri Lankan coasts will cater to all experience levels, whether you’re a beginner or a professional surfer. There are tubes over shallow waters with sea urchins that make the waves exciting (any surfer will know that means) and there are also waves for learning how to stand on a surfboard. The country has diverse seasonal patterns on each side of the island. When one side of the island is rough, the other side is calm.

The monsoons take turns affecting the coast from different directions, making Sri Lanka a year-round surfing choice. The most popular spots for surfing are Unawatuna and Hikkaduwa in the southwest coast, Weligama in the south coast and Arugambay in the east coast. The waves here are not like the ones around the world. The waves in Sri Lanka are smaller and longer rather than being giant.
