Minneriya National Park

Located in the north central province of Sri Lanka, Minneriya National Park is renowned for its mega population of elephants and tourist flock from all corners of the world to witness this majestic beast in the wild. If one is lucky, you could see over 100 elephants visiting the lake edge for a drink of water. You will be especially lucky during sun down as the elephants hop out of forest dwellings once things cool down. Unsurprisingly, the national park was designated as wild life sanctuary in 1938. The park covers approximately 8889 hectares and is not only the land for the elephants. It is home to variety of species of birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, butterfly. Safari’s at the park is recommended either early morning or late afternoon as during the extreme heat of the afternoon, the animals tend to venture deep into the forest for shelter and we believe a good old afternoon nap.
